PROLOGUE

Just six minutes and twenty-eight seconds away, my mother is on the verge of ruining my life once again. She has a knack for causing chaos when I least expect it, like the time she embarrassed me at parent-teacher night or went viral for her over-the-top pride in my high school graduation.

Today, she stands at the altar, dressed in a stunning gown, ready to marry her wealthy groom. As she recites her vows, I can’t help but focus on the best man, with his striking grey eyes filled with hidden pain.

Hours earlier, we shared a moment of passion, knowing it could never last. He pleaded for us to run away together, but my heart couldn’t overpower my rationality. Despite knowing we belong together, the timing just isn’t right.

As the pastor instructs them to kiss, I realize that our chances of being together are gone. He is now my stepbrother, and any hope of a future with him has vanished.
